Get ready to see Jared Leto of Thirty Seconds To Mars slip into those silk pajamas!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brett Ratner will soon be directing a biopic on Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and has chosen Leto for the part. Ratner reportedly said, “when [Jared] heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”
Leto never did meet Hefner but Ratner is confident it won’t be an issue. He says that “there’s enough footage on Hef out there that Jared will be able to get as much information as he wants…”
The project is still early in development by RatPac Entertainment but the idea and rights for the story have been circulating through several production companies since 2007. Robert Downey Jr. was also considered for the role at one point.
Brett Ratner also has plans in the works to bring back the late 60’s talk show Playboy After Dark, which was hosted by Heffner. No date set for when we’ll receive the biopic.
Hugh Hefner passed away at the Playboy Mansion on September 27th this year at the age of 91.
