Dave Grohl recently announced that Justin Timberlake is the mystery collaborator on the Foo Fighters’ forthcoming album, Concrete and Gold. He previously revealed that Paul McCartney is going to be making an appearance on the LP, playing drums on a yet to be known song. Timberlake will be taking that a step further, providing backup vocals. Combine this new knowledge with producer Greg Kurstin, who is known for his work with Adele, Sia, Pink, and Ellie Goulding among others, and I’d be confident to say that there will certainly be a unique sound that we haven’t heard before from the Foo Fighters.
Grohl told Rolling Stone that Timberlake used to hang out with the band in between recording sessions at LA’s East West Studios, and that relationship resulted in a collaboration. “We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot,” he told Rolling Stone. “He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but – I just want to be able to tell my friends.”
Justin Timberlake is one of the biggest celebrities on the planet, and even he finds it cool to be able to tell his friends about being on a Foo Fighters record. Hey, pop stars are people too.
Don’t expect to much however, because Grohl went on to describe Timberlake’s contribution as “la la la”. Concrete and Gold is due out September 15th, and that can’t come quick enough.
