Construction on a new $1.25 million skate park near Tropicana Field is currently underway. The 30,000 square foot facility is being built in the existing Campbell Park and is funded entirely by the City of St. Pete. The purpose is not only to attract world class skating events but to also add variety to the lives of children residing in and around St. Pete. With the prevalence of mainstream sports like football in the state of Florida, extreme sports like surfing and skate boarding often get overlooked. When finished it will be the largest skate park in the state, so they should have no problems attracting top notch events.
