Any band that has been together for nearly 35 years is sure to have a massive catalog of songs. Some of these songs are sure to, frankly, suck, some are to be beloved by hardcore fans of said band, some will be loved by mainstream music fans but despised by those hardcore fans of said band, and the rest will fall somewhere in between. Now, fil in the blanks with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and you’ve summed up their career into a sentence. Formed in 1983 out of the emerging punk rock scene, the Los Angeles rockers went from playing any and every local venue that would book them to a successful career highlighted by several Grammy wins, a spot in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and a less tangible spot as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Now, a career as long as this in front of the Hollywood spotlight is sure to have its bumps and roads along the road. What’s special about the RHCP is that their career has spanned over several generations of music fans. When you go to their show this Thursday at Amalie Arena look around and you’ll probably an equal number of people in their 50’s and 60′ and people in their 20’s. I’m in my 20’s and the RHCP were already 8 years into their careers. Thus, picking 10 songs and ranking them is tough, very tough. I combined my personal preferences with other lists from acclaimed media sites, and used my analytical skills to form a non scientific list of 10 songs that fans of any era would probably agree with (to some degree).
