Last week Chad Smith, the drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers, posted a video on instagram showing him and a few buddies jamming in what appears to be a normal backyard. As it turns out, he was at a charity event in Malibu, and his buddies were Chris Martin (of Coldplay), Beck, and Jakob Dylan (of The Wallflowers). They played songs from Pink Floyd, Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, Ariana Grande, Prince, and Beck himself.
Sure this is a joke, but is it really? I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chad Smith, who has been known as a jokester, throw together a few shows with some legendary musicians like this. Some of Smith’s other musical side projects of note include his instrumental band, known as the Bombastic Meat Bats, and the rock group, Chickenfoot, which included Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Joe Satriani.
The video is one of the few clips available from the event, so excuse the relatively poor quality. It’s not everyday you get to see super star musicians jam out on the same stage, and sound very mediocre at best!
