Today in 97X History – August 26th

We’re going WAY back with today’s entry.

It was on August 26, 2001 that 97X hosted the “97X Summer Lovin’ Beach House Blast” at Shephard’s Beach Resort.  The headliner was The Calling, who was enjoying success with their hit “Wherever You May Go.”

Unfortunately, there’s not much in the way of photos from the event.  Back in 2001, we were using cameras that saved the photos to floppy disks…yes, you read that correctly, floppy disks!  These disks have long since been either destroyed or lost.  There are a couple images that still survive.

There’s no photos of the band performing that day, but as you can see above, there is a photo of the original blue inflatable-air-flailing-tube-man who wore a 97X t-shirts at all of our events until he was stolen at 97X Next Big Thing 1 later that year.

The Calling never matched the success of “Wherever You May Go” and disbanded back in 2005.  Lead singer, Alex Band has had some solo-projects, acted in some TV shows and strangely was abducted in 2013 by two men who robbed and beat him.  He was diagnosed in 2012 with the onset Parkinson’s.
